I was referred by a friend that this agency was looking for a Japanese speaker to help out with Formula One. I always enjoy working with Japanese people to use my language skills, so I contacted All Team Staffing to get set up. I worked with a guy named Jason to get me set up. I asked a lot of questions, because I wanted to make sure I was signing up for something that I wanted to do as well, yet anytime I asked about where exactly I'd be, who I'd be working with, what I'd be doing, at what pay rate, etc, I could never get a straight answer.
One day, I got a text from Jason saying I needed to go to a training that evening to see if I was available. I went that evening--they said I needed to come in uniform--all black. I didn't understand why I'd need to be in uniform, but apparently in this type of industry, people don't trust the competence of their staff, and have to treat everyone like children.
I met the owner, Kristi, who found out I was the person who spoke Japanese. I was appalled at her reaction when she say, 'No shi*, you speak Jap?'. This alerted me that I was not working with someone professional, nor with any type of cultural sensitivity training. I brushed it off as pure ignorance, but as the day came for us to sign in and work for All Team Staffing, I saw that this is Kristi's way of conducting herself--unprofessional, and terribly incompetent. Kristi told me that she had gotten a better rate for me, at $16+ an hour rather than the $12/hr that everyone else just catering gets.
Since I saw an effort at making my role be special, money wasn't important, just knowing that I was definitely not washing dishes or something gave me peace of mind. I can't remember how long it's been since making $16/hr! They had us arrive at 4:30AM on Friday for the first day of the races. I kept asking why we needed to be there that early, because obviously fans would not be there, and if no one is there, why would I be needed. Yet, they wouldn't give me any answer and said I needed to be there at 4:30 to get signed in.
So 4:30, I arrived, and low and behold, no one from All Team Staffing is there. Not only were they not there at 4:30, no tent, no personnel, no nothing until about 5:45AM after all their staffers sat in the cold waiting for anyone to show up. Kristi showed up smug and acted like nothing was wrong, and I knew from this point too, that this was not going to work out how I wanted.
Fast forward to the end of the weekend, and after hearing horror stories from other staffers who claimed that All Team Staffing would take forever to process checks, withhold random fees, and if tips were left on the room, that they weren't divvied out. I'm not sure if any of this happened in my case, but I know after working for 3 days in the suite, that there were no tips after speaking Japanese the entire weekend.
I also know that they took $30+ out of my check for a background check that I asked specifically during signing up if one would be done, and Jason said no (I didn't even sign any paperwork that would allow a background check to be done), and the rate of my pay was the original $12. I have spent over a month trying to get Kristi to rectify the incorrect pay, the background check withdrawal, and wrote simple instructions in an email, verbally spoke to her on the phone, and wrote reminders almost every week that I am still looking for the check.
Her last response was 'why the hostility?' And I explained that I'm sick of waiting for her to finish this task, and that I'm not hostile, I just want this completed and don't understand how it takes over a month to finish this. I gave a deadline of December 27th to receive the check, and still, no check was received, so I'm writing this review to give anyone who is considering staffing with All Team Staffing a fair warning and to move their employment elsewhere--it is not worth the effort and incompetence of this team to engage with them on any level, and I'll never be working Formula One again, nor will I ever do a gig that is represented by All Team staffing again.
