In 1984, a group of ten gathered in a 100-square foot basement office of an East Harlem-based housing project. This was the first class of STRIVE, a new take on job training and placement that focused not just on getting the chronically unemployed into jobs, but keeping them there.
Headed by Rob Carmona, an East Harlem native who had overcome multiple incarcerations and substance abuse to earn a Master of Social Work from Columbia University, STRIVE used a "tough love" approach to work readiness, focusing on low-income New Yorkers' attitudes and behaviors and not hesitating to dismiss those who weren't showing they were ready to succeed.

Services
STRIVE's mission is to transform the lives of at-risk populations by providing support and training that lead to livable wage employment and societal re-integration. STRIVE will empower individuals to open doors, change lives and strengthen community. STRIVE joins in the effort to raise the hopes and well-being of persons in need in Flint and throughout the State of Michigan.
STRIVE was established in Michigan in 2000. Annually our organization has refined its ability to deliver life-changing services to the community. STRIVE is proud to serve participants that are in need of empowerment and employment. STRIVE is committed to serving the hardest-to-employ, most at-risk individuals.
Our Youth programs are tailored to provide training and job placement for youth from the ages of 14 - 21. We have serviced over 125 youth in job preparation training and obtaining employment. Our training has taken place during summer sessions and during the school year to assist students with career education and development.
STRIVE has collaborated with various organizations and companies in the Flint and surrounding areas to train, entry-level, and incumbent staff members. This new component is a great investment in the success of tomorrow's health care work force. As we proceed into the new millennium, it has become increasingly obvious that certain job readiness skills are necessary in order to sustain a career in the ever-changing health care industry.

If you want to be talked down to and treated like an inmate then strive is your place. The class i was in was a class of four people. And tge lady couldnt remember who was who or what they did the one on one meetings about. They say they get to know you individually which they attempt to but the guy is so focused on his power trip he dont remeber anything.
The woman must be drunk cause she cant tell one person from another. Then tries to get me a job at a business that was getting shut down. I'd like to thank strive for wasting 4 days of my life
